Introduction to Ayam Goreng

Ayam Goreng, or fried chicken in English, is a popular Indonesian dish that is both delicious and easy to make. It is a staple in many Indonesian households and is often served with steamed rice, vegetables, and sambal chili sauce. In this recipe post, we will guide you through the process of making a simple yet flavorful Ayam Goreng that is sure to please your taste buds.

Ingredients

To make Ayam Goreng, you will need the following ingredients:

• 1 kg chicken pieces (legs, thighs, wings, and breasts)
• 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup cornstarch
• 1/2 cup ice-cold water
• 1/4 cup vegetable oil
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tablespoon ginger paste
• 1 tablespoon soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
• Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking Instructions

Follow these steps to make Ayam Goreng:

1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well to combine.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the ice-cold water, garlic, ginger paste, soy sauce, and oyster sauce (if using). Add this mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms.
3. Add the chicken pieces to the batter and mix until they are well coated.
4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large wok or deep frying pan over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add a few pieces of the chicken to the wok (do not overcrowd).
5. Fry the chicken until it is golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per side. Repeat with the remaining chicken pieces.
6. Once all the chicken is cooked, remove it from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
7. Serve the Ayam Goreng hot with steamed rice, vegetables, and sambal chili sauce. Enjoy!
